I was 13, when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, since then, I take 5 shots every day. When I go quarterly for my medical check-up I don’t go to a general practitioner, I go to a Endocrinologist, someone who specializes in diabetes, because they know the latest treatments, innovations, they have day in and day out experience dealing with people with similar issues with my condition.

When I need advice regarding my finances, I don’t just go to anyone at a bank. I go to a financial advisor someone who has inside knowledge of my goals and objectives, someone who is professional and is actively monitoring the economy and trends, while I’m working. That said, I wouldn’t trust my financial advisor with my diabetes, and wouldn’t trust my endocrinologist with my finances…the thought is funny.

I trust them and use them in their respective fields because they are specialists, our economy has gone to one where we value people who have a particular set of knowledge, experience and skills to do specific jobs we need. The benefit of using a specialist is peace of mind, cost savings and a more predictable outcome.
Pressure washing is a very low barrier to entry. You can rent a machine for $90 and call yourself a pressure washer. It makes it easy for a landscaper, a painter, a handyman who is already working at your home, and doing a great job in their respective service, to offer to power wash or stain your deck to make a few extra bucks. It’s rational, they are doing a good job, it’s convenient, I need to get it done anyways, maybe you think the price is even right….Wrong.

I’ve never heard in my twenty years of pressure washing, my landscaper did my deck last time and he did a great job, or my plumber really knew how to cover up my plants when he stained. The stories I hear are ones of HORROR.
· Over charge because they don’t know how to bid job
· To much pressure on the deck, causing splintering and permanent damage,
· Overspray on house, patio, bushes
· To long to get the work done, because they were unsure how to do it efficiently.
· They underbid the job, get frustrated and get a better paying job sothey walk off
· They make recommendations on stains that cause more work andcost more to clean up

Frequently my company WashMyDeck is the next call a few years later, sometimes we are the second opinion the same year. Many times we can undo what was done, but sometimes we can’t. Decks can cost tens of thousands of dollars to build but can be ruined in hours by someone who is not a specialist and may not even have insurance.

It was at a customer’s deck about 8 years ago who had a bad experience by letting the neighbors son wash and stain their deck a few years prior. She opened the door and I entered the lion’s den, it was the grand inquisition, it was tense, guilt by association (both of us owned pressure washing machine) a relentless drilling of questions about our process, types of materials we use, do we cover this, have you thought about that, what’s your warranty?… over and over for about 30 minutes. I loved it, I love people to share my passion and care for their deck. To her I was battle tested so I earned her trust, as a result, the customer said, you’re like the deck guru, she made my day and the name stuck.
